We Honor Memorial Day

Posted by Allison Satterwhite on May 24, 2013 2:10:28 PM

This Memorial Day weekend, we at Check-6 honor those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Memorial day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to decorate the graves in honor of those lost in the nation's Civil War. By the late 1800s, many communities across the country had begun to celebrate Memorial Day and, after World War I, observances began to honor those who had died in all of America's wars. In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a national holiday to be celebrated the last Monday in May. We are privileged to live in a land of freedom thanks to the sacrifices of so many who have gone before.
